From a practical standpoint, pay attention to any changes in appetite, movement, sensitivity to touch, or environment, and consider whether a veterinary check or evaluation by an experienced trainer is appropriate if the behavior is new or persistent. Then spend time together without asking for much in return—quiet grooming if your horse enjoys it, hand-grazing, or simply being present. Relationships, whether with people or animals, tend to deepen when we make space for who they are instead of trying to recreate how they used to behave.
