On here there seems to be a lot of pointing fingers at people and different cliques for doing substances. I agree, doing substances to have a good time is NOT sustainable, and NOT authentic to what the alternative community has historically been about, and should be about going forward. We are all adults here, or at least should be mature enough, to talk about addiction openly without stigmas attached. Addiction is a very real thing that has stolen many many good people from all of our lives, permanently or temporarily. If you see someone with an actual substance abuse problem, the problem likely isn't the substance or "partying too much", it's probably a bad social circle, unmanaged mental illnesses, bad living / financial situations, or general stress. It's not something that just happens, it's a ball that starts rolling and without a solid support network it rolls really far, and get's unmanageable. Obviously hold people accountable for fucked up shit they do under the influence. You can't get better if you don't know what you did wrong. If you're recovering and think that everything you did magically washed away and is forgiven, you have work to do, you're not a lost cause, but please work on yourself. Unconditional love is what changes everybody. Be there unconditionally for your people & take good care of them in the healthiest way you can. Don't kick someone while they're down for being on substances or relapsing. This is not a problem that can be fixed by calling someone a junkie and putting yourself on a pedestal.
